Equities are certainly having a good run. The FTSE 100 enjoyed its best January since 1989, closing at a four-and-a-half year high of 6347 on Feb 1. The Dow Jones finished on 14010 - the first time it's passed 14000 since October 2007. Many are predicting they will go much higher by the end of the year.
So is now a good time to invest in shares? Who knows? Over the last 112 years, shares have delivered an average return of 5.4% a year - much higher return than cash, gold, bonds and property. On the other hand of course, you can LOSE money over the short, and even the medium, term. So what should the sensible investor's strategy be?
